Getting to Know Your Au Pair From Germany
A German au pair will enjoy being part of a host family’s life, sharing family activities and making memories together. It is very important in the German culture to be on time; therefore German au pairs are known for being quite punctual. They appreciate clear guidelines and a schedule listing their au pair responsibilities. If any issues or concerns arise you can expect your German au pair to communicate them to you directly; and in return to appreciate honest feedback from you and their au pair contract.
Today's German family has on average one or two children. Even though families are not as large as they used to, it is at the center of one's life and family time is made a priority over some other social commitments. Spending time with immediate and extended family on weekends and during major holidays is very common. Your German live-in nanny will enjoy meeting all members of your family and spending traditional get-togethers with them.
Most young people in Germany finish high school or the equivalent between 16 to 18 years of age. Many then pursue post-secondary studies in larger cities and move away from home to live in their own apartment or share a place with roommates. Therefore, you can expect your German au pair to be quite independent when it comes to household chores, preparing meals and keeping the house tidy.
A live-in au pair from Germany will typically have experience babysitting the children of neighbors, friends and relatives. Many au pairs acquire additional experience by completing internships at a local kindergarten or day care center job in Germany. Quite a few German au pairs qualify as our Par Expérience au pairs: they may be a kindergarten or elementary school teacher or have a degree in social studies for personalized assistance.
In Germany, the minimum age to obtain a driver’s license is 17; but one needs to be accompanied by a parent in the car up to 18 years old with a driving license. It is fairly difficult to pass the written and practical exam, even after having finished driving school and having acquired many hours of driving experience. Most European driver's licenses, including German driver's licenses, are usually harder to obtain than in the United States. Especially in more rural areas, it is very common for young people to have their own car and drive daily to school, the gym or other activities. They should most likely be used to driving in challenging weather conditions, e.g. snow, ice and heavy rain. Of course, it is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs when interviewing au pairs.
Students at German schools are required to learn at least two foreign languages, one of them being English. Most German au pairs have been studying English since 5th grade, so their speaking and writing skills can on average be rated as very good to excellent. Generally, they will feel comfortable communicating in English when arriving to their host family.

Child Care Experience
Sports, Interests and Hobbies
I really enjoy nature and taking long walks with my dog through the forest or along the sea side. This is one of my favorite things. Often the whole family comes along. Also, I love playing and cuddling with my cats. I grew up with a lot of pets and they belong to the family. Apart from that I found my creative side during winter vacation. Now I crochet, paint and I create my own scrapbook whenever I have time. But I just started with all of this and all I crocheted yet is a heart and a jelly fish. I also love going on a shopping trip with my mum and my sister that is always a lot of fun and we have a nice dinner afterwards. Sometimes I like to play soccer or badminton with my siblings which doesn't mean I'm good at it I just like to play it.

What characterizes me as a good au pair exchange is that I love to interact with children and spend time with them. I can offer your children both fun and games and a hand to guide them through life. I would describe myself as very organized and flexible. I am also very empathic and adaptable. It would be a pleasure for me to build a bond with your child. Since I never had a little sibling, but always wished for one, I would be very happy to play the big sister role for your child.

Getting to know the American Lifestyle and Traditions is something I have always dreamed of. Becoming an au pair also means to come into contact with many great people which gives me the chance to improve my English skills. I would like to participate in the Au Pair exchange program, because I love working with children and it gives me a lot of joy and fun. Children close you so quickly in the heart and the time together is always great, so I would definitely like to travel to the U.S. with EurAupair and work there with a host family with the children. In addition, I have always been interested in America and it has always been a dream of mine to get to know the American culture and holidays and to experience them with an American family. I would also like to travel through America and see the different states and get to know them, because each state is different. Of course, I would also like to improve my English and an au pair year is the perfect time to do so, because on the one hand you learn better English and on the other hand you learn the English that is spoken in everyday life in America.

I want to be an au pair in America because it has always been a dream for me to spend time in this country and to improve my English even further. I am also looking forward to really getting to know a new culture in an American family. Later on I would like to work in a bilingual kindergarten and it is also good if I was able to gain some experience beforehand by being able to look after the children of a host family. I am suitable for the Au Pair program because I am child-friendly and have already had a lot of different experiences with children. I am very friendly, curious and interested in getting to know American culture better.

I want to be an AuPair because I've always wanted to be more involved with children. Also, I've always found American culture fascinating. I've heard a lot about it and now I want to form my own opinion. Of course, I would also like to learn the language. It is a dream of mine to speak English fluently for eight years. I just believe it is a beautiful language.
